ACROSS THE VALLEY by
ConnieMarie
Across the valley,
O’er the river wild,
I’ve sought thee; I seek still.
‘Nigh fen and fell,
Deep and darkling forest,
Brook and tumbling rill.
Thou bidest near;
I ken beloved voice,
Aloft on autumn breeze.
Thy face I glimpse
In lane and misted rain—
Cruel answer to my pleas.
Across the valley,
O’er the river wild,
I seek now e’re in vain.
Winter’s frost
Stealing breath and mem’ry
Leaving naught but pain.
My heart yet yearns.
I long to gentle thee,
Whisper thy sweet name.
The long years’ passing
Shall not quench this flame.
Across the valley,
O’er the river wild,
I vow at last I’ll fly
To find thee, love,
No more by duty bound
Cast free and joyous, I.
Passage granted,
Winging o’er the waves,
To light on distant shore,
Where I shall love thee evermore.
Where I shall love thee evermore.
