Diamond feels like such a fool, weeping as she had. Estella tells her there's no use in worrying overmuch – and if there's a hobbit in all the Shire that she'd have wept upon, herself, Pippin is the one. Diamond smiles, and Estella in turn, and they find themselves drawn together, as though fated to that end. But then, laughing as she draws back, her hands at Diamond's, Estella says: 'You know, in all the fuss, I made certain your brother had settled into his room, but quite forgot about you!'
Diamond laughs as well, and isn't that silly? But then Diamond quite suddenly seizes Estella, and kisses her mouth. Clutches at her, and releases her with some reluctance.
Estella, her hair longer now, and dark as ever, with her eyes as grey as starlight, as clear and as bright, licks slowly across her lips, and then grins. Estella, strong and brave and beautiful, pale lips, and with a creeping blush upon her cheeks. 'Well then,' she says at length: 'I think that matter has settled itself well enough – there's room enough in my bed, you know.'
And there is, isn't there? And Diamond wants that, wants that place, very much.
It's the first thing Pippin says, once they've made it to their room, the little guestroom which earlier, Merry thought, hadn't seemed so very small. 'I don't think we'll fit,' he says, eyeing the bed. Merry eyes it as well, but then shrugs off the first of his suit.
'Somehow we'll manage it, Pip.'
And Pippin grins at him, but doesn't move to undress. 'I'm sorry that we made her feel so very bad. Diamond, that is. Now, I know it's no fault of our own...' Pippin stops, and Merry doesn't feel it in him to urge Pippin on. 'Well, I suppose I ought to put that all behind.' He blinks, and then he smiles. 'You know, she's rather sweet.'
Merry's now half-undressed – and Pippin's not moved one thread. 'Yes, I noticed that – Stella's rather taken with her, don't you think?'
'Like a flower reaching for the sun. They're quite, ah, lovely. I'm happy for them, you know.'
'Yes, I know.'
'And I still don't think we'll fit. The bed's rather small. Not to say we've not done with worse – and it doesn't seem terrible, for all we've seen that has been. But still...'
It's never the bed that's changed.
It's the first Diamond has seen of Estella's room: the wide, round window, and the wide, covered bed, and the little bits of Estella, strewn all about. Up on the mantel, an old doll from Estella's youth, a bit of yellow ribbon tied about its arm. Books, and more books, and papers scattered across her desk. An old candle, on the bedside, burned down almost to its end.
And Estella at her back, breath warm, down low on her neck. Estella's hands, fingers small and fine, pressed against her back: and then, her hands fall to Diamond's hips. 'I've no clue where your things have gone to, I suppose we'll look for those come morning – the question of a nightdress is easily answered, though you are somewhat taller than me, you know.'
Diamond turns, catches Estella's hands, kisses one palm and then the other and then, finding herself quite content, settles Estella's hands once more at her hips. 'Aren't I? But, really, you needn't bother – ' And somehow, a number of kisses later, she makes her way back to Estella's mouth. Feeling somewhat bold, she says: 'Now, perhaps there's no need for a nightdress – at least, not on this night...'
And there Pippin is, standing like he has been all along, and Merry in his trousers only. Pippin's eyes are haunted, as they've been too often of late – Merry knows it's only Pippin's gaze that wanders, scatters afar like leaves cast in the wind, as Pippin himself, the whole of him, the rest of him, is well within reach. And it's too long since he gathered Pippin up, held him in his arms – felt the warmth of him, felt his breath, and remembered once more how he loved him, with all his heart.
In a way, it's all very surprising: but when Pippin turns his mouth to Merry's, and kisses him, that doesn't surprise Merry at all. He's not the lad he was, but he is still Merry's own Pippin, his only. Pippin's mouth is smooth still, his tongue wet and soft, no matter that the kiss itself is demanding, hard.
Merry staggers back, a hot thrill gone through his body, and falls length-wise across the bed, with Pippin coming down on him, pinning him against the bed. And they kiss like that, Pippin against him, Merry's arms outstretched above his head, with Pippin's hands both clutching at his wrists.
Diamond draws back, breathes – and Estella looks at her, her gaze full of love – and Diamond would like to be loved. She'd like to feel that, though she knows as well that she is very, very young. And she shivers, as Estella's mouth brushes hers – a soft moment, a slow motion, more intimate than any deep kiss. 'I want to do this properly,' Estella says, against her mouth, a low, hot breath, and then Diamond staggers back, her footing unsteady, as Estella swallows her mouth, as they kiss. The whole of Diamond's life flashes in the darkness behind shut eyes, and Estella's hands slide up the curve of her sides. 'I want to... I want to...' And Estella can't quite catch her breath, can't quite work her hands.
Diamond knows what Estella wants: she wants it herself.
She reaches back, with just one arm, undoes the lacing on her bodice as she does – though, they've never seemed so many. 'This,' she says, and Estella's hand is with hers, then, and aiding her – and Estella's breath is hot, damp, against Diamond's cheek, and Diamond's knees feel weak, as well. The lacings give, and her bodice shifts – the descent of cloth begins.
Pippin does not hurry – he kisses Merry, takes his time, and Merry shifts beneath him, slowly growing hard. The slow build of the fire, and he's not – oh. He's not touched Pippin, not had Pippin touch him, in too much time, and now Pippin seems so very intent on taking his time, and not even to tease.
When Pippin draws away, shifts up on one elbow – stroking Merry's chest, and down to his belly, his fingers dipping beneath the band of his trousers – Pippin says, 'I want – '
And he doesn't finish, but Merry knows Pippin too well, and knows what he meant to say. 'You'll have me, all of me, my very dear Took. Now, I think – ' and it isn't that Merry's breath catches, but he does moan, throwing his head back briefly as Pippin strokes, lingering and firm, over the hardness that grows in Merry's trousers.
They both need to undress. Merry busies himself with Pippin's clothing, baring skin – stroking scars, and kissing them, and kissing Pippin's neck as well. He would like to take his time, but there is an urgency in Pippin's motions, in the hitch of his breath and the depth of his eyes.
Estella reaches up with both hands, pulls on the sleeves of Diamond's dress – pulling it down, her mouth on Diamond's, kissing her as she pulls, the scrape of cloth on skin. Diamond shivers, knows she'd been the bold one, first – in kissing, in thinking anything, and she does want to think that Estella wants her. Diamond wants to be wanted.
And Diamond, Estella's mouth moving from her, touches her chin, makes its way down Diamond's throat, kissing and sucking, and letting heat linger, finds herself thinking of Pippin, his broad hands with their long fingers – as Estella's hands smooth down her arms, and Diamond allows herself to be undressed. But the thought of Pippin flashes in a moment, and Diamond feels hot already, but she knows, it can't be from the thought of him. And Estella, now, is making her way down – kissing her way, as bare skin is revealed. The flutter of Diamond's breath. Estella kisses her where her heart beats loudest.
One breast, and then the other – and bare kisses, soft and smooth and dry – and Diamond feels her dress pool about her feet, and then Estella is down on her knees before Diamond, kissing her trembling thighs.
Merry is glad that they're not taking their time – even if he wanted to, he's no good at telling Pippin no, even those times where it would have done him good. Then they're in bed, and clothing is scattered. Merry is somehow amazed, and by such a simple thing – and Pippin, careless in his abandon. For all there have been changes, this Merry knows. Pippin against him, bare skin and hardness, is a thrill he's blessed for – and one he'll always wonder at, as he hardly sees how he deserves this, and Pippin.
Pippin thrusts against him, slowly – breath low, gasping. No oil, and Merry feels the press of Pippin, against him – and Pippin rubs up against him, hard, grabbing at his shoulder with one hand, but stroking Merry with her other. Curved against him, pressed up tight, front against front, Pippin's breath hot and damp against his neck. He tangles his leg about Merry's, pushes up as hard as he can, as frantically as is possible. And Merry's not able to do much, his breath coming in gasps as it is, and with Pippin's hand on him, and Pippin against him –
He'd rather Pippin be in him, that's true.
It takes her breath away – and she almost falls – and she does stagger once more, but then Estella gathers her up once more, and Diamond laughs against Estella's shoulder. 'Oh, stars.'
'I... we ought to get you settled in bed.'
And Diamond would like that, oh, she'd like that very much, and Estella's kiss is wonderful and deep, and Estella settles Diamond against the bed with care, running one hand down to her belly, pressing flat. Diamond shivers a little, with Estella's knee, her skirt, pressed up against Diamond's thigh. 'I am going to... oh. I want to do this properly, you know,' Estella says. And then Estella bends her mouth to that task, and Diamond's breath puffs out, as Diamond shuts her eyes and pushes herself against Estella's wet mouth. She doesn't just kiss one breast and then the other, she strokes and kisses, and wanders her hand to the wetness at Diamond's center. And Diamond gasps, pushes against Estella harder, even as Estella laughs, soft and sweet and song, kisses her and strokes her, and Diamond clutches at her, oh – oh.
Estella murmurs, low and soft, against Diamond's cheek – kissing her, at leisure, as Diamond quakes and moans.
Yes, he'd rather Pippin were in him, no matter how that might hurt, them too far gone to go after proper oil. Merry thinks it will be worth the pain. He feels Pippin, all of him, his gasping breath – 'Pippin, breathe, love, breathe' – and Pippin does, low again, and steadier, and Merry reaches back, clutches at Pippin's hip.
He doesn't see stars – but he falls into the darkness of his vision, as he releases, spills hot on Pippin's hand, clutches harder. Pippin's loses his rhythm – and Merry is still holding on, saying, Pippin, please, and it's not the easiest, come-sticky fingers, and spit as well, but it's what Merry wants to feel, Pippin inside. First, his fingers – one and then more, pushing in, thrusting, and Merry, half-rolled over as he is, pushing back against Pippin's hand, begging almost beneath his breath, wanting harder – more.
Then it is more, all of him inside, and Merry's full and loved and, oh, he gasps, groans, and almost sobs against the covers. It is too much, almost, the emotion of it – and Pippin does not thrust hard now, but rocks against him slowly, going deep each time.
And now, that's when Merry sees stars.
She sees stars and she cries out, and Estella doesn't think to muffle that – and Diamond doesn't think of it either, but Estella hasn't finished with her yet, kissing and stroking her still. Diamond sees stars twice more, and then, only then, does Estella let her collapse against the bed. Sweat-sticky, a pleasant, languid heat. But somehow, she moves.
Estella lets her undress her, after that, and Diamond takes her time. Baring skin, kissing flesh, licking and touching and kissing, making Estella cry out – swift, bold touches, and slower ones that linger, though just as bold. Something new, and something she has never done before. Something she is glad she is sharing with Estella – Estella, whom she loves.
And then Estella is bare, and it's her turn against the bed, and Diamond explores her, from head to toe – her neck, the curve of her nose, her sweet mouth, the warmth at her neck and the heat pressed between her thighs. And Estella cries out, once more, begging her with breath and moans, and one hand fists tight in Diamond's hair – but doesn't push, doesn't pull. And Diamond kisses her at leisure, wants to give her something very special, in turn.
Pippin is deep in him, breath hottest now, voice low and sweet, murmuring with each thrust, and Merry feels sparks throughout him. He's hardly at his youngest, but he'll be hard again, and soon – and for some reason, one he can't fathom, he thinks of Diamond, North-took fair, sea-coloured eyes, and the sweet shape of her smile. Diamond, and Estella, light and dark, and beautiful, beautiful and bold, and in his thoughts, so thoroughly entwined, he can't tell one from the other. It fades, that vision – like breath, or song, and he's gasping again as Pippin pushes in, stills. Pippin, telling Merry how he loves him, babbling almost – he's caught up, as well.
The heat fades, but not completely. With Pippin spent, he burrows up close against Merry's back, half in a drowse, saying he'll go and fetch a clean cloth, just as soon as he is able. And Merry dozes – he wakes, the bed shifting somewhat, and Pippin is gone. Merry feels pleasantly sore, and thoroughly dirty – but dirty in a very good way.
Then Pippin comes back, does what he must, kisses Merry and pulls the covers up, and winds himself about him – and Merry holds on, tight.
She wakes early, the morning after that – the first night in a long time where she'd slept through the night. And she lies there, looking overhead, the morning light soft and pale and somewhat grey. But despite that, the winter beyond seems very far away – but maybe that is because of Estella, Diamond thinks. Estella is warm at her side, soft, and Diamond turns and curls against her, breath and touch and sleepy murmurs. She laughs when Estella's breath tickles too much: and then, when Estella's eyes are opening, she kisses her the rest of the way awake.
They rise, and Diamond stretches, and Estella yawns and stays settled in bed. Estella, who's been her friend, who was there for her when she needed it – Estella, whom she loves, and she is not frightened at all by that, knowing it as truth.
She kisses Estella once more, and rises from the bed: and sometime after that, beyond time spent in the washroom, and borrowed clothing that doesn't quite fit, they make their way to breakfast. After that, Berry will be going on to Brandy Hall, and Diamond does want to say good-bye.
She must be glowing, and everyone must know.
'You'll come back, as soon as you might,' she says, and Merry answers her, and says they will. And how she smiles, well, Merry can't help but smile in return. Then, thinking he might act properly, he kisses Estella upon the cheek. She laughs, her eyes sharp and bright, and gives his left arm a playful smack. Then she pushes up on her toes, puts one hand on his shoulder, and kisses him upon the mouth. She kisses Pippin just the same, and once she's done, she grins and her eyes are sharp still, and bright. Neatly, she tucks her arm about Diamond's waist. 'Ella!' Diamond exclaims, then laughs, and Estella turns and murmurs something against Diamond's mouth, and Diamond's cheeks flush pink. She kisses Diamond, more than that, and the kiss is very long, and very deep.
'You've corrupted me thoroughly,' Diamond says, hot and sweet, as she draws away. They are both near, almost wrapped in each other's embrace.
As if he's not wanting to be forgotten, Pippin kisses Merry, and then tells Estella and Diamond that it really is too bad, them having to leave. But Merry's promised already that they'll return, and they will be back.
Estella stands beyond the grand doors, staring down the lane, where Merry and Pippin had ridden: and they've vanished, but at least not into thin air. And there Estella is, her gaze chasing after them – and Diamond needn't wonder where she's gone, if she's followed after Merry and Pippin. But she wonders, what will it take to bring Estella back? But Estella rouses at that thought, and looks at Diamond. For a moment, Diamond has the feeling that Estella might speak, or that she might bend her head and weep.
She's not certain if it's what Estella wants to hear, Diamond says: 'It's won't always be good-bye.'
'You're likely right,' Estella says, her voice now seemingly faded, and distant. Then Estella shakes her head, shuts her eyes tightly – opens them, and throws her gaze to the sky. A smile as bright as sunlight, as Estella blinks away her tears. But what would have made her cry?
'Estella – '
'Nothing, nothing. Don't you mind me, Diamond, dear.' Estella kisses Diamond's cheek, then kisses Diamond once more, that one upon the mouth. 'I was thinking too much, but nothing more than that. And I've had enough of thinking, at least for today.'
