Telling Tales

By: Dana
Summary: The threads of a story.
Characters: Hally Bolger, Talenard North-took, and Peridot Bolger North-took
Pairings: Hally/Talen/Peridot
Rating: G
Warnings: Gen with pile-elements (because Hally, Talen, and Peridot are an OT3)
Author's Notes: Posted for my month long Birthdaypalooza, August 2007.
I had to write A Turn of Years because I needed Peridot to be able to honestly refer to Olivine in this Very Short Ficlet.

They share their stories: Talen's first, his time as a rebel. 'And I was lucky,' he says. 'You might not think it, but I was. Never caught, never hurt, not really. My leg only pains me when I dance too much.' And here, he grins. 'And, you know, I do love to dance.'

Peridot hardly has anything so interesting to say, but they are curled warm about Talen, already, so she tells them of Olivine – Talen, who knows the story well, and Hally, and this his first time. 'I decided,' she says, 'after losing her, that I would live my life for her, and not live in my despair. I thought she would rather it be like that.' Talen could say the same about cousin Tolagrand. And Hally could say the same about Tol. Then Peridot brushes her hand over Hally's cheek. She looks to the other side of the room, where the baby sleeps in his cradle, and she smiles. 'That's better for us all, I think.'

Hally's story is hardest, and he needn't tell it all, at least not all at once. A little here, a little there... why the night is so painful, why his terror is so deep. And they know, and they understand, when to wrap him in their warmth. 'We won't ever leave you,' Talen says. 'I think we both love you far too much.' He needs to heard that, just as Talen needs to have said it, and it's better said, like that.
